By BBN Staff: The Government of Belize, through the Department of the Environment (DOE), is once again partnering with the British Army Training Support Unit Belize (BATSUB) to implement “Phase 3 of Exercise Tropical Alliance”.

The exercise is a mass casualty, environmental disaster simulation exercise.

The overall goal of this final phase is for all participating agencies to test and monitor skills, procedures, and interoperability between agencies.

This exercise aims to better prepare first responding agencies to help save life and protect the environment should a catastrophic emergency event occur, through assessing: communication and reporting during the incident, directing emergency services, responding to and dealing with an environmental disaster, and extracting casualties by vehicle, boat and helicopter in a simulated precarious environment on land and water.

Participants in Exercise Tropical Alliance Phase 3 are:

  • National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO)
  • Department of the Environment (DOE)
  • Belize Police Department
  • National Fire Service
  • Ministry of Health/Belize Emergency Response Team (BERT)
  • Astrum Helicopters
  • Belize Natural Energy
  • Belize Defence Force (Special Boat Unit)
  • BATSUB/US Marine Corp
